Leap of Faith – How does healing work? Steve Martin’s character has a group who works with him evangelizing around the country. This evangelizing strategy is a ploy to make money. Healing is a big part of his evangelizing. At the end of the movie, real healing is seen and Steve Martin’s character admits to being a fake healer.

Braveheart – William Wallace fights for the freedom that his people are looking toward. In the movie Wallace says, “Fight and you may die. Run and you’ll live. At least awhile. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing to trade all of the days from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they’ll never take our freedom!” Wallace can be compared to Jesus giving his life for our freedom.

Dead Poets Society – The students involved in the society are called to reform it as Professor Keating influences the boy’s lives in various ways. There is a re-birth of the society through these students. A Judas is among the group who eventually betrays Professor Keating.

Field of Dreams – Ray has faith as well as struggles with this faith to build the baseball field. He hears a voice calling him to build the baseball field and wonders at times why he is being called. James Earl Jones character is called to go with the baseball players into the unknown. In knowing that he will not be able to come back to the life he knows he tentatively, but also with happiness goes into the unknown.

Hope Floats – Sandra Bullock’s character deals with loss and a fresh start as she travels back home with her daughter. She struggles with who she is and what she wants out of life as she reconnects with her mother. “Beginnings are scary. Endings are usually sad, but it’s what’s in the middle that counts. So, when you find yourself at the beginning, just give hope a chance to float up. And it will” (A line from the movie).

The Legend of Baggar Vance – Bagger Vance helps the golfer Rannulph Junah find himself again. It is when Junah feels that he needs Bagger the most that Bagger leaves him, but gives him a young boy to help him. The young boy does not feel up to the task, but Bagger assures him that he is ready. This can be compared to the Spirit empowering us even when we do not feel ready.
